In tribute to Rupert Scofield, a fervent advocate for the fight against poverty and co-founder of FINCA, FINCA Canada has set up a scholarship program for the children of FINCA clients, called the “Rupert Scholarship”.
At FINCA RD CONGO, with its 300,000 clients, the selection of scholarship recipients was meticulous due to limited funding. Each agency identified between 3 and 4 priority and low-risk candidates, to finally select 40 beneficiaries, including 21 women and 19 boys.
To mark this occasion, the branches organized a welcoming ceremony for the scholarship recipients. Upon their arrival, they were introduced to the teams and clients present in the branches, where the Rupert Scholarship program and Rupert Scofield’s achievements were briefly explained.
The initiative raised awareness of the importance of education and FINCA’s vital role in supporting the most vulnerable families.
The Rupert Scholarship thus marks another step towards a more equitable educational future for all in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
